Stolk Construction was founded by the current company President’s grandfather, Leonard Stolk Sr. in 1955. Formerly a carpenter in the Netherlands Leonard Sr. immigrated to Canada in 1953 in search of greater opportunity for himself and his family. He was quickly able to find work with local companies and did a number of projects for friends and neighbours. He began his own company a short while later. With the help of his sons he worked to achieve his vision of providing a quality product at a fair price; a vision that has since remained reality.
In 1962 the company was officially incorporated and in 1981 Herman Stolk, son of Leonard Stolk Sr. purchased Stolk Construction Limited. Over the next several years Herman worked tirelessly to build a strong reputation of quality work and exceptional service. This resulted in the opportunity to work with many large industrial, institutional and commercial clientele throughout the Niagara Region; many of whom remain clients today.
In 1989 Herman’s son, Leonard joined the company full-time. He was mentored by his father in an effort to learn every aspect of the construction business. Using his degree from McMaster University and real-world management experience gained after graduation, Len began to formalize and structure the business operations.
By 1997 Stolk Construction Ltd had outgrown its facilities and relocated to their current home in Port Colborne. The facility, built by the Stolk Construction team is located at 11 Petersburg Circle and is home to the company’s administrative office, milling plant and warehouse.
Len remains the President today; with Herman acting as an advisor and mentor. The organizations continued growth is credited to a strong team of talented individuals who work towards the same goal every day….”to earn lifelong customers and make the lives of these customer easier.”
